$15 An Hour Minimum Wage, My Ass!

I can understand wanting to make a livable wage. What I can’t understand are fuck ups wanting to get $15/hour to make me a hamburger when they can’t even get the damn order right when they’re making $8/hour! Seriously, if you want a pay raise, you really need to prove you’ve earned it. That’s how it works in the real world. Wake the fuck up and stop expecting people to hand you shit just because you want it. This ‘entitlement’ mentality really needs to be flushed with the rest of the stinky shit.

These minimum wage jobs aren’t meant to be a CAREER! They are meant to be filled with unskilled workers (preferably legal workers) who then learn some skills and move on to better paying jobs where they learn MORE skills. Rinse and repeat as often as needed. Welcome to the world of being a mature adult.

I won’t even go into my rant about how increasing the minimum wage is going to impact all the wages above it. You really think a highly skilled worker is going to want to only make a few dollars more than the guy making his burger? And if you think that the price of goods and services isn’t going to increase, you need to pull your head out of your crack-hole. The money for those higher wages isn’t gonna fall off of some tree. Nope, it’s gonna come out of YOUR wallet.

And this bullshit about how people can’t get a better job because they can’t get skills just sends me into a hissy fit. Where do you get skills? Well, going back to school is a damn good place to start. Yes, you can even go to college if you only have a GED. (If you don’t have a GED, you can get free classes to help you pass the tests).

Argument #1: I can’t afford to go to school.

Bullshit. Take your happy ass down to the local unemployment office and ask to see a career counselor (yes, even if you currently have a job). They have a butt load of options for grants, free education, low cost loans, etc. You just have to keep pressing them. I’ve seen a number of people get an education this way. Me, included. So don’t tell me it’s not possible.

Argument #2: Classes are only offered when I have to work.

It’s the 21st century. Most classes are now offered online to be completed at YOUR convenience. So, if it’s important to you, you’ll carve out a couple of hours a day to get that education. I worked, raised a mouthy little brat and took full time classes. But, I was determined to better my position in life.

Argument #3: I don’t have a babysitter.

Child Care Assistance. If you’re working for minimum wage, I’ll bet you qualify for almost 100% funding. I’ve used it when I was working and going to school. My weekly portion of the bill was $25 out of the $500/month it cost to baby sit my brat.

The bottom line is - ff you want that $15/hour job, I suggest you earn the right to make that much. All these government handouts and entitlements are not only killing the over worked middle class, making a laughing stock of the US in the global arena, but it’s also bankrupting our future generations.

Don’t make that future grandkid of yours hate you because you wouldn’t get off your ass and get a real job. They’re already gonna avoid you because you smell funny, talk weird, and interrupt their social media/gaming time.

  2. Oh dude! I HATE it when I ask for extra cheese, no pickles and dem bitches forget my cheese and put on EXTRA pickles. If they can't function at $8/hour, how the hell are they gonna function at almost twice that?!

  3. This just goes along with the way our country is going. If you feed, cloth, and pay for living conditions, you breed a society of those who feel they're obligated to get more, without doing anything more to get it! Of course, if the government hadn't allowed all the manufacturers to move out of the country, many of the folks in these low paying jobs, that did come from higher paying jobs, wouldn't be in the work force instigating much of this. However, as the middle class disappears in our wonderful land of endless opportunity, I'm sure we'll see minimum wage increase if for no other reason than to keep the populace moderately subsiding so they don't revolt and create mass havoc. God, there's times I love our government!

  4. You're too right about these jobs not being CAREERS. Too many adults in my area are taking the jobs intended for teenagers, so my son and his friends can hardly even FIND work. Make yourself marketable, employable, learn a SKILL. Entry level jobs SHOULD pay entry level pay. Once you've mastered that, move on, move UP, make way for the youngins. It's rare that a person shouldn't be able to do this.
Otherwise, you're forcing places to raise their prices and/or use robots to do the work. Don't make McDonald's replace drive-thru employees with robots and vending machines, robots make a lot less mistakes and don't need uniforms provided....

    1. YES! Exactly, Joy! In my opinion, if a person can't move up, it's because of a few limited reasons. But a majority of them SHOULD be able to develop skills that make them more marketable for better and higher paying jobs.

In some instances, I'd rather have a robot take my order. Maybe then I'd be able to get more than 2 cubes when I ask for 'extra ice.'

  5. You said it all here! When I went to high school then college I worked jobs like these to make spending cash and pay bills. My family were not rich by any means, and I knew these were temporary jobs to get by until I could support myself in the real world. Asking for $15 an hour to work in fast food is a joke. It's one thing to move up to management and make that as they earned it, but not for the counter staff taking my french fry order. These types of jobs were never meant to be living wage positions. This country has turned upside down with this newer generation feeling everything needs to be handed to them and not really wanting to work hard at it. Reality TV and the media also feeds into the "entitlement generation". It's a bad joke at this point. Someone should slap some sense into them.

  6. In this economy skill doesn't matter. People with PhDs are just as unemployable as high school drop outs. I briefly worked fast food when I was desperate for money. I promised myself I'd never get mad again when they fuck up my order because there is no training. They basically show you the cash register and expect you to know how to run it after about 10 minutes of 'training'. Most of the people where I worked had been there for years. The system is screwed not the people.

    1. If there's no training and no direction, how the hell do they expect to be paid $15/hour? I've known people that have tons of skills and training and don't make that much. yes, the system is very screwed and it needs to be fixed, but I don't think raising the minimum wage THAT much is going to fix it.

  7. YES YES YES. My babysitter is paying her own way through school, working 2 jobs, getting student loans and ROCKS. She's the same exact age as my step daughter and my stupid step daughter is a stripper who feels like the world owes her a living. True story. Sigh. Love the new site you!

    1. Kristi, it makes you wonder why some 'get it' while others expect it to be handed to them, don't it?! Yay for your babysitter, hang on to her as LONG as you can. :D

  8. My issue is that after nearly 25 years in public service I make about18.00 an hour. No one is giving me a raise, so what I labored 25 years to achieve will now be barely above minimum wage. I don't mind the increase ( and know a lot of good people in other professions are tied to the minimum, but oblin seems extreme.

    1. Finally, someone that feels like I do! I've been preaching this for WEEKS. I've worked almost 5 years in a medical office that I went to voc school and worked temp to finally get. I JUST reached over the $15/hr mark, and now I'm going to completely feel invalidated. (I don't work or live in Seattle, but nearby.)

    2. I agree, if they want that much, they have to work for it and earn it. And if they get $15 handed to them, what's next? $20/hour?

  9. Thank you. I've been inundated with nothing but positive rants about this $15/hr raise thing. I'm kind of wore out arguing my point about it! I told myself years ago that I would never move into King County. That whole area is fucked up. Even more-so now. It ain't working so well for Sea-Tac either. Maybe Seattle should have watched Sea-Tac disintegrate before passing this damn thing.

    1. I had no idea that Sea-Tac did it, but I did see on the news where Seattle raised it. I think it's a big mistake, but I guess time will tell.

Some people are too quick to put their hand out without thinking about the consequences of that 'freebie.' Nothing is free.
